London on a budget

World city of stadium shows, West End theatre and endless nights out. Here's where to stay, what to do, and how to turn it into a whole trip, without overspending.

London doesn't have to cost London prices, the trick is staying just outside zone 1 and riding in. This is the practical version of a London guide: where to actually stay (with live prices compared across 100+ booking sites), what's worth your time, where to go after dark, and a budget you can book today.

💡 Local tip: Tap in with contactless and let the daily cap do the work, never buy paper tickets.

The cheapest time to visit London

For UK travellers, aim for late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September) for mild weather and lower prices; winter is cheapest if you don’t mind the cold. Mid-week departures (Tuesday to Thursday) almost always beat weekends on price, and setting a budget first, rather than a fixed destination, is the single biggest money-saver. You can do exactly that with our London trip builder.
